Set on 6,000 acres near Matauri Bay, Northland, The Lodge at Kauri Cliffs affords spectacular 180-degree views of the Pacific Ocean. Cape Brett and the offshore Cavalli Islands are part of the panorama, which can be viewed from the verandahs, lounge, card and dining rooms.

The main lodge, which overlooks the golf course and the Pacific Ocean, consists of a spacious beamed living room, meeting room, card room, and small computer room.

Eight secluded guest cottages, each with two guest suites, provide accommodation at Kauri Cliffs. Every suite offers its own private porch, comfortable bedroom with sitting area and open fireplace, walk-in wardrobe and bathroom. The cottages are nestled on the edge of a native forest overlooking the ocean and golf course.

Deluxe Suite - 8 cottages house the 16 Deluxe Suites on the edge of native bush looking east from private verandahs across the golf course and the Pacific Ocean. They are in a staggered row to the north of the main lodge building. Each room features a walk-in his and hers wardrobe. There is also a large bathroom with shower, bath and his and hers vanities. The main bedroom features an open gas fireplace, superior mini-bar, large armoire with TV and video, super-king bed (able to be split into 2 super-singles), rattan armchairs and ottomans.

Regular Room - There are 6 rooms in addition to the 16 Deluxe Suites. Featuring two single beds, or 1 king bed, ensuite bathroom and wardrobe.

1 & 2 Bedroom Owner's Cottage - A large (4,200 square foot) two-suite house is positioned with the main lounge and one or two bedrooms overlooking the ocean and golf course towards the Bay of Islands. The house has a private infinity swimming pool and hot tub and easy access to all lodge amenities. There is an outdoor barbecue and cooking facilities for the chef if private in-house dining is preferred. There are open fireplaces in the bedrooms and the main lounge. There are two bathrooms and a powder room in the house.

Gourmet a la carte dining is available in the main dining room or on the verandas.

Breakfast is a buffet of local and imported fruits, home-made muesli and cereals, yoghurts and freshly baked muffins. In addition, a hot menu featuring eggs, pancakes, crisp bacon, ham, sausages and ricotta hotcakes may be ordered.

A formal three-course lunch is available. Alternatively, there are a variety of sandwiches, salads and desserts to choose from.

Wonderful picnic sites abound on the property. They have three secluded beaches, several waterfalls and stands of magnificent bush. A choice of delicious picnic lunches is available.

The cocktail hour is an excellent time to meet fellow guests. Hot and cold hors d'oeuvres and a wide range of wines, beer and spirits are available.

Their a la carte dinner menu changes nightly and features local produce and seafood. The best New Zealand lamb and beef are served. Chef Paul Jobin is also a master of exotic and tempting desserts.

Gentlemen are required to wear jackets during cocktails and dinner. Jackets are available to borrow. Room service and private dining are available.

Golf - Kauri Cliffs was designed and built by David Harman of Golf Course Consultants, Orlando, Florida. The par 72 championship golf course measures 7,125 yards/6,412 meters and offers four sets of tees to challenge every skill level. Fifteen holes view the Pacific Ocean, six of which are played alongside cliffs, which plunge to the sea. The beautiful inland holes wind through marsh, forest and farmland.

The golf complex includes a world-class practice range, putting and chipping greens, a well-stocked golf shop, and ladies' and men's locker rooms.
