Larnach Castle

Larnach Castle is New Zealand's only Castle sitting in superb grounds high on a hilltop of the Otago Peninsula looking out over the waters of Otago Harbour, 20 minutes by car north of Dunedin.

Larnach Castle was built over 5 years from 1871 by the extremely wealthy baron William Larnach. Its lavish interiors took another 11 years to complete. Filled with New Zealand antiques, the castle and the surrounding 35 acres of gardens and grounds are open daily to visitors.

Within the grounds lies a colonial style farm building with 12 holiday accommodation rooms individually decorated in period style. All have a magnificent view of the ocean 100 feet below and ensuite bathrooms.

Lodge guests are invited on a complimentary tour of Larnach Castle and breakfast is included in the tariff. Dinner is offered in a Castle Dining Room, and is only available to accommodation guests.

Larnach Lodge was designed as a re-creation of a colonial farm building, positioned with spectacular harbour, ocean and peninsula views, making the the ideal overnight accommodation on your next New Zealand holiday.

Accommodation

This Dunedin accommodation is in the recreated colonial style farm building, Larnach Lodge with 12 rooms individually decorated in period style. Beautifully decorated 'themed' rooms - Scottish, Enchanted Forest, Rhododendron, 'Kates', New Zealand, Rose, Sea, White, Kauri, Pink, Goldrush and Victorian.

Standard Lodge Room: Ensuite shower. Bedding is 1 Double Bed OR 1 Queen Bed. Maximum room capacity is 2 Adults & Children.

Balcony Lodge Room: Themed room with 1 King Bed + 1 Single Bed. Ensuite shower. Maximum room capacity is 3 Adults OR 2 Adults & 2 Children.

Premium Lodge Room: Themed room with ensuite bath and shower. Bedding is 2 Queen Beds. Maximum room capacity is 3 Adults OR 2 Adults & 2 Children.

Dining

Complimentary breakfast is served each morning in the 'Historic Stables', cooked or continental.

Lunch, morning and afternoon tea are available at the 'Castle Cafe in the Ballroom'.

Dinner is in a fabulous 'Castle Dining Room' (which must be booked by 5pm).

With Dunedin city a mere 20 minute drive from Larnach Castle, the local dining options are plentiful.
